GoPro HERO 3: Changing your WiFi Password

Unfortunately, GoPro only allows you to change your camera WiFi name and WiFi password when you update your camera's software (method 1). Now this can be quite annoying especially if you're not planning to update your software or if it's already up-to-date. However there are a few simple steps you can take to change your password just by re-updating your GoPro HERO 3 (method 2).

METHOD 1:
"I want to update my camera's software and change my WiFi password."

In order to update your GoPro you will have to look up your camera's 14-digit serial number. This can be done in the following way.

Find your GoPro's serial number:

1. Remove the battery to see the serial number

         Serial number examples:
            HERO3+: H3X+1233X0L1234
            HERO3: HD3LB123X0L1234

2. Your camera will power off

3. Re-insert the battery and replace the cover

After you found your unique serial number follow this link to register/update your GoPro HERO!

METHOD 2:
"My camera's software is already up-to-date but I still want to change my WiFi password."

If your camera's software is already up-to-date, but you wish to change the camera's name and password, you'll need to re-update your software.  To re-update your camera's software, you'll first need to disable Java in your web browser.

Here's how to disable Java:
  1. In your preferred browser go to settings/tools.
  2. Locate the plugin folder
  3. Find the Java plugin and disable it
For more detailed instructions follow this link.

After having disabled Java just follow the steps in METHOD 1 and you should be good to go ;)
